Kids from John Moffet Elementary School and Al-Aqsa Islamic Academy have been working with neighborhood artist Lisa Volta and Jenn Mctague of Second State Press to create designs to be featured on the Feast napkins.
On their last day of this incredible workshop, students experienced the screen printing process first hand, and even took a piece of printed fabric home! With help from Jenn and Second State Press member Scott Porcelli, the kids held down the screen and squeegeed the ink to create a one-of-a-kind design.
Excited to see their drawing integrated together and put into a two color print, one young woman spoke of plans to join her and her brothers' yardage into a headscarf with her mom's help. Watch the video below!
We'll be printing the fabric for the feast napkins (around 80 yards!) at Second State Press on Thursday, August 11th from 3-9PM! Volunteers of all experience levels are more than welcome to help with the process! Drop in or let us know you are coming by RSVPing on Facebook or email Jenn at firstname.lastname@example.org!
Experienced Sewers needed!
We're making 300 napkins and are assembling a team of sewers to finish off napkin edges. If you'd like to volunteer your sewing skills this August email email@example.com
